Hey BeatStars family,
When I learned that May is Mental Health Awareness month, it made me think:
What about mental health makes it have such a negative stigma? Why is it something that has been so taboo to talk about?
When you look at the numbers, over 20% of the world's population deals with some sort of mental health condition. That means 1 in every 5 people you meet. That means it's likely someone in your friends group, your family, your workplace is dealing with a mental health condition.
Mental health is such an important topic, yet it's rarely discussed. So often, there's this unspoken pressure to look your best, to feel your best, to be the best...but why? Why is talking about the things that make us imperfect - that make us human - so uncomfortable?
So much like entrepreneurship, life is full of ups and downs. It's important that throughout this journey called life, you take care of yourself and your mental health; that you talk with trusted friends and loved ones about how you are feeling; that you lean on the community around you; and that you remember it's okay to not be okay.
Our goal at BeatStars is to support creators to the fullest extent, and that includes doing our part to encourage a better you. And as someone who herself is on this uphill battle to better my mental health, I want every single person to know - including you reading this letter right now - that you are not alone.
I hope that you'll join us over the next week as we bring awareness around mental health, share our stories, and help #BreakTheStigma.
